So… I find myself unexpectedly without kids on Saturday until 2. Here’s the rundown:
Pro:
I have all the ingredients I need
I have the time
It may be quite some time again until I’m able to brew
Con:
Girlfriend also has no kids on Saturday, and it will probably be her last free weekend for quite some time. I can’t brew at her place, and she can’t come over here.
All my equipment has been unused for a long time now. I have no idea what condition it’s in. Burners are probably rusted to shit by now.
go her her place. brew a 5 gallon extract batch on her stove in the kitchen using 2-3 gallons of water and backfill it to 5 gallons in the primary fermenter. You brew but you included her into something new, you spend an hour and a half or or so brewing and then enjoy the rest of the weekend.
Spend an hour in the morning cleaning up your gear and figuring out what to do to get it working again. Then go see your girlfriend with that 6-pack. If you like her, skip the extract brew. You can teach her to brew some other time when time isn’t so tight.
+1 You’ll probably need to spend some time getting your system cleaned up and put back together. Work on that a little and then head over to the girlfriends place.
I’m not doing an extract batch over there, because then she won’t understand why I have to spend the extra time and effort for all-grain when I finally am able to do it again.
Anyway… Maybe I can take a look at equipment tonight.
Man, you guys are funny…so encouraging!
I’d also vote for skipping brewing and seeing the gf. But at this point in your life, extract brewing never looked so appealing.
Today: pickup all the stuff you need for brewing (Hank Hill voice: popane, propane accessories…).
Tonight after your kids are in bed: test your burners, start your yeast and clean any equipment that needs it so that you will be ready to go first thing the next morning.
Saturday Morning: Dough-in your grains and then run off to see your lady.
Saturday Afternoon: Finish the rest of the brewing (sparge, boil, cool, pitch yeast).
But seriously…I would make the time to brew at some other time that will allow you to focus on brewing beer. Tweek your equipment now to be ready when you decide to brew. Having a fire drill on brewday is not a good idea.
