I generally put a pinch of yeast nutrient in the wort for my starters, but today I was a bit careless and the pinch was exceedingly generous. What are the potential consequences of this? It was Wyeast nutrient.
What would be your estimate, volume-wise, of “exceedingly generous”? As a sort of insurance policy - can’t hurt, might help - I add a half teaspoon of the Wyeast nutrient as general practice in 6 gallons of wort. I should think there would be no ill effect even with a rather whopping large dose.
I also usually use 1/2 tsp for a 5 gallon batch. I was making 1 liter, or roughly 1 quart, of wort and put in probably 1/4 tsp. That would be 1/4 tsp per quart instead of 1/2 tsp per 20 quarts, or 10x the usual amount.
Not a problem. I generally use 1/8 tsp in starters, but have gotten distracted and added twice with no ill affect.
It will dilute out in the full batch. It should be OK.
