I also usually use 1/2 tsp for a 5 gallon batch. I was making 1 liter, or roughly 1 quart, of wort and put in probably 1/4 tsp. That would be 1/4 tsp per quart instead of 1/2 tsp per 20 quarts, or 10x the usual amount.
