The only “homebrew” I have ready tonight is my recent hard cider, which is stellar. Had my gallbladder removed in the fall and that ordeal cost me a couple months of brewing time. That’ll damn sure be remedied in 2014. So in the fridge I also have : Boulevard Tank 7
SN Celebration
Dragon’s Milk
Goose Bourbon County
Chimay Blue
St Bernardus 12
Rochefort 10
Karmeliet Tripel
NOT in fridge:
Knob Creek
Lagavulin 15
I usually have at least 2 or 3 of mine on tap on New Year’s Eve, but it’ll do.
I’m working and won’t get home until just before midnight, so I’ll only have time for one. I usually get something special from the cellar on NYE and for the Super Bowl, but it’s been a long night and I don’t want to waste something if I’m just going to crawl into bed after the fireworks.
I have a 120-minute IPA that’s been sitting in the fridge for a little while, so I may kick into that. Or I might finish off the bottle of Kurt’s Apple Pie I opened recently. If I’m going to be awake for a while I think I might crack into some Older Viscosity that I’ve been sitting on for a few years.
We had a couple of nice bottles of wine with appetizers and dinner. Then after some hydration, we had an orange blossom honey balaton cherry mead that I did a while back, it did not suck.
Desert is ice cream with Rumtopf, with some Schramm’s mead Statement Reserve. Bottle 15 of 36. I know it will be stellar. I have had some at the Meadery.
I know, Denny. My friends think it’s weird too. But it’s just a tradition I initiated years ago when I decided that New Year’s Eve was amateur night. Same deal with St. Pat’s Day. They have become my designated days of rest.
No worries though…I make up for it on the other 363 days. Including January 1st! ;D
I had a couple Yellowhammer IPAs on nitro then got into it with a bottle of Booker’s. It was delicious. Paired well with the Don Pepin Garcia I found in my stocking. This morning I had a little homemade Irish cream in my coffee, went for a 3 mile run and just finished another Irish coffee with just a wee bit more Irish in it.
Hope everyone has a safe, happy and prosperous New Year!
I pulled out a few homebrews from this year plus a Mission Brewery BBA stout and a three liter bottle of Chimay blue from 2010. I didn’t drink it all myself but I sure drank a lot of it.
