Curious what others experiences are with this hop. I have a fresh keg of a smash ahtanum and kind of surprised by the hop character. I have used it before but never by itself and am getting just a crazy floral thing backed by a bit of citrus and grass. It combines with some spiciness to almost be perfumy. No real point here just to see what others get out of this hop. I have seen it as a sub for cascade, Amarillo, and centennial but it seems pretty different to me. Fwiw these were sealed 2015 bags from yvh. 4.4% aa I think.
I used it last year and didn’t like it. I found it kind of cloying. I used it @ 60, 30 and 0 min. No dry hopping though.
I’ve used it many times in APA and AIPA and liked it in a blend. I
usually got the citrusy/floral thing and felt it integrated well.
I see descriptors like ‘geranium’ so I guess I shouldn’t be surprised. I guess I know what geraniums taste/smell like now…
Agreed, I do not think it is really a sub for a C hop at all. It is cool in a C hop blend. Adds a little freshness. On similar note, I find I am at odds with many people’s opinion of hops. Citra… blah: herb-y dank astringent and a far cry from tropical citrus, same with simcoe… cat pi$$.
