Can I recover from rookie mistake. After 10 months of allowing mead to ferment and rack, the mead is cloudy, the last 3 months I kept it on clothes dryer, so I think the vibrations stirred it up. Last night we bottled. Wondering if I need to unbottle and reallow to clear or filter or how to recover. Thanks
Just store the bottles upright and still for a while. It will settle out in the bottle. Just be sure to pour gently and leave the lees behind when you serve.
+1 to the comment from erockrph. Un-bottling is a huge pain. I’ve done it.
You’ll also find that if you put a bottle in the refrigerator, the sediment will drop out much more quickly and completely. At this point I’ve stopped using fining agents, and just refrigerate a keg for several months before bottling. And that’s not meant as a bash against fining agents. I used DualFine (previously Super Kleer) for many batches with great results. But since I started kegging, the refrigeration method just works better for me.
