What's Brewing This Weekend - 1/28 Edition

This is it, my friends - last full weekend of the first month of the year.

What are you doing to commemorate it?

Watch the Pro Bowl or count snowflakes as they fall from the sky…can’t decide which is more exciting.

Hoping to brew an Oatmeal Stout this weekend.

Managed to coax a slant from Nov 2009 of WY1084 into life so it looks like Oatmeal Stout time.

Don’t know if I will be able to brew, but I am going to keg an APA and a cider this weekend.

Also going to try yeast washing for the first time.

No brewing this weekend. Bottling some beer to make room for more beer in the kegerator and working on the single tier brewstand on Saturday. Judging in NYC for Homebrew Alley 5 on Sunday!

IPA - yay!

Celebrating my wife’s birthday!
No brewing, but I’ve got a lot of bottling to do for upcoming competitions.

Working this weekend (again!) but hope to get a dopplebock in next Thur.

Still might not have water so no brewing this weekend again.  If the water does get fixed before the weekend I’ll probably try to bottle a batch that could have been bottled two weeks ago.

Just melt some of that tons 'o snow we got coming down.  Plenty of water.

Schwarzbier, finally.  I’ve been meaning to brew it for a few weeks now.  Making my starter as I type.  Going to break in my new stirplate!

All of the yeast is finally ready, and the malt is conditioning for the Bo-Pils Tomorrow.  It is going to be a long day, but I am geeked.

If the BDS is done, I’d like to keg and bottle this weekend, but I don’t think I’m going to have time.
My boys have football games, basketball games, and baseball tryouts all on the same day.
Maybe Sunday, maybe not.

Going up to Breckenridge to hit the slopes this weekend so no brewing for me  :-[ but I have an Aussie light on deck.

First weekend of Gainesville’s Hogtowne Medieval Faire (also next weekend as well). Our club has the beer concession for the Faire. In the past we’ve served Guinness, Harp, Smithwickes (used to serve Bass), and Oliver’s Mead. (from the choices, can you tell that Diageo & our local beer distrib were sponsors?). Now we have Swamp Head Brewery, a bottling micro here in Gainesville. Craig Birkmeir, the brewer, started out as a homebrewer & club member. So we’re now serving 4 of the Swamp Head beers, Guinness, and the mead. Weather looks to be cool, clear & sunny.  I’m totally jazzed… this is the best party of the year and provides our club with funds to do all kinds of other events.

If you’re anywhere near Gainesville come on out & I’ll buy you a beer.

Did a  Hochkurz Double Decoction today, halfway through the 2 hour boil.  This will be a long day.

Still sniffing airlocks. IPA & Pyment.  And anxiously awaiting the results of the Upper Mississippi Mashout. Sent a couple brews there for giggles & grins.  Cheers!!!

No brewing. I need to finish framing my basement, and more importantly, the bar area. I did get a starter going today for a brew day Monday or Tuesday though. I’m planning an old ale.

I just finished the Bo-Pils.  Glad I did a Hochkurz mash and not a triple decoction.  It was about 10:15 start to finish.  Things went OK.  Chilled it down to 40F, cause that is what they are said to do in the Czech Rep.  That takes some time, but I do have a near infinite supply of snow to chill the pond pump water with.

Hope this one is worth it.

Check that!  Weekend plans have changed.  Smoking some 2-Row with Alder Wood & brewing the “Smokehaus Porter”, a family favorite. Cheers!!!
