What's Brewing This Weekend - 7/27 Edition

Another month in the can!

What’s your plan?

Nothing. Fermenters are full. Kegs have generous amounts still in them. I think i am going to be enjoying the fruits of my labor out in a cabin on a lake…I relax as I think about it

It’s big brew weekend for me, so this week is all about growing copious amounts of yeast.

We’ll be doing a 10g Oktoberfest and a 10g FarmHouse Saison.

For the Oktoberfest, I’m doing a yeast comparision to perfect this recipe.  I’ll split the batch and use WL Oktoberfest in half and WY Baviarian Lager in the other half.

Finally brewed my Oktoberfest yesterday morning, better late than never. No brewing this weekend though. I’m packing the family up for a week on the beach in North Carolina.

I’m brewing. just don’t know what yet. maybe a wheat porter I’ve been working on.

Belgian Barleywine didn’t happen yesterday, but the starter is already cold crashed so I’m hoping to do it in the next couple of days. The only good thing is that that gave me enough time to run to the LHBS to get some Special B, otherwise I probably would have had to make do with some CaraMunich I had on hand.

Same here.

I think I want to brew as well.  I also do not know what.  Maybe None More Black IPA, maybe dunkel…haven’t decided.

Pliny The Elder clone.

I did the same split for my Ofest this year.  I usually end up with 6-6.5 gallons of finished beer so I blended the extra gallon or so from each fermenter into my little 3 gallon corny to sample. Tried it last weekend and the blend is fantastic.  Hopefully the monocultured varieties stand up on their own.

No brewing this weekend.  Still trying to decide whether or not to rack the Flanders or leave it alone.  Get to brew a batch with the Rogue Green Dragon Brew Crew on their pilot system Monday. I believe we’ll do a complicated blonde.

Been working on a recipe for a hoppy American Brown.  Got the starter churning now.  Will probably take a day off and brew it up on Monday since the weekend is already packed with stuff.

I’ll be brewing the English bitter I didn’t get to last weekend.

Catching up on some yard work and need to buy some yeast for a Saison experiment. Also need to clean up the cellar. Plenty of beer to drink as well.

Realized I have way to many empty kegs. Brewing another double batch this weekend. Doing an ESB and Mild, two of my favorites.

Munich Dunkel.  Waiting for my starter wort to cool right now.

Doing a Bavarian Weizen on Saturday. IPA and APA will get some dry hopping as well.

I’m going to make a very small (2 gal) batch of oatmeal stout by mashing the night before, heating to 170, and then boiling the next morning very first thing (per http://www.homebrewersassociation.org/forum/index.php?topic=3356.15 ).

Yep, garden and yard work, depending on the weather, of course.  Ron, I have the WLP566 and Brett B. for the Saison experiment, I guess we need WLP565 and some other yeast of your choice for the other 10 gallons.  Good to go for August 3 brewing session, let me know and I will make the yeast starters this weekend.

Also got some yard work to do, gotta finish up the drip irrigation in the garden. Also going to brew 10 g of something with wheat and rye. sounds like a saison to me.

Proposing to my girlfriend this Saturday - so no brewing then

Probably going to clean up the brewery - possibly doctor a keg or two of beer I’m not very excited about: A raspberry hef that doesnt have enough raspberry and a citrus witbier that has too much citrus character (probably wont use grapefruit zest in beer again).
