What’s on the brewing agenda mein damen und herren?
I was going to brew today, but the universe decided to be funny and rain in LA. Now, I have to work while listening to the sirens of the EMT crews racing around to all the wreck sites. Currently I show more than 20 active collisions around the city!
I brewed on Monday…5 gallons of 1.084 OG Belgian Strong Dark Ale fermenting merrily away. Tonight I will add a pound of D180 candi syrup to it…what will that boost the effective OG to? 1.088?
No brewing this weekend, as it is Opening Day of pheasant and antelope season on Saturday.
No brewing, planning. Gonna get a fresh dumped whisky barrel soon and need to plan a big ol’ barley wine to fill it with. Thinking 100% munich 10L and golding hops.
No brewing this weekend, though the Quad I have fermenting seems to have attracted fruit flies to my basement (damn WLP500). I am hoping and praying that none of the little bastids find their way in. Its in a bucket :(. Guess I’ll have to wait and see. I have found that moisture attracts them as well, they happen to be OK with Star-San apparently. >:(
It’s a busy time around here… it’s a mad dash to thanksgiving with the family which entails bringing LOTS of beer/beverage.
Bottling plans: New England style cider
Ballantine IPA (it’s been on 3oz of dry hops for 7 days)
2 gallons of experimental un-hopped sour porter
Saison du Cherry Limeade
Cocoa Blond (just 2 row and cluster hops with cocoa nibs and vanilla bean)
Brewing plans: Tres Leches Stout (oatmeal stout with 2 or 3 pans of tres leches cake in the fermenter)
Wild West Pale Ale (with wild grown hops)
Contemptuous Prick (Arrogant Bastard)
I misted the outside of the fermenter with bleach. It didn’t keep them away, but they didn’t last long after they landed on it. starting to cool down now and that seems to help as well.
On sunday i’ll be dryhopping my IPA and let it sit for a week… (that’s the of brewing inconvienient … timeeee!)
also, i’ll brew an Oatmeal Stout, something around of OG 1.060
also im brewing a chicken and seafood Paella for catering haha!!
Well, I have two and a half sacks of grain that I’m picking up on Monday. So the plan will be to brew an ordinary bitter to build up a yeast cake. Then brew an old ale and partygile a mild in a week or so.
