Is it really September? Holy heck. Best brew something!
I’ve got my garage/brewery half torn apart to finish the plumbing and electrical (finally, after 5 years!) but it’s a 3 day weekend and the forecast is for cool weather. I’m gonna have to put it back together enough to brew a batch of Rye IPA for my wife. I could see tears in her eyes when she kicked the keg the other day!
Brewing up an American barleywine with Simcoe and Amarillo to commemorate the birth of the new kid. Still trying to figure out what to name it. It might just be new baby barleywine until some additional personality traits emerge. Planning on aging this one for a good long while so there’ll be plenty of time to figure that out.
Nothing planned, but if I get a wild hair, maybe a fest beer or some other lager.
3 days, 3 batches. . .
Pilsner Urquell clone
Hacker Pschorr O-fest clone
Schlitz clone
No brewing this weekend. Removing labels from bottles for in prep for my RIS and studying for my BJCP exam.
Nothing planned, but you never know. I might have to take my new cooler/tun for a spin . . .
Or maybe I’ll just clean and keg this weekend, that stuff never ends.
I am so behind on this. I must have at least 6 cases of bottles that need to be cleaned. Maybe I’ll try to get a batch or two of these through as well this weekend. Thanks for the reminder ;D
Harvest Ale for me. This year it will be an APA with a full flavored hop presence. I’ll be bittering to about 25 IBUs with commercial Yakima Magnum pellets, but the rest of the hop additions will be homegrown Cascades/Centennials. I plan to do a FWH addition, which is something I haven’t done in my harvest ales before.
back to back 12gal batches on Saturday morning - DC Rye IPA and House IPA.
Yes, that’s right Denny, Rye IPA - figure its time to give it a whirl again after about ~4 years.
For me 10 gallons of either traditional bock or double bock. I haven’t decided yet. I do have plenty of yeast though…
Yesterday was hot and humid as I picked the last of the hops. Saturday will have a high of 61F. Cool enough to fire up the burners and do a fresh hop APA. Or maybe an IPA, as it was a good crop this year (for me at least).
Debating… I need to brew something to serve at my kids 6th b-day party - (and no, not for the kids obviously ;). I’m thinking something like an ESB or a smaller belgain. Any sugesstions? I don’t want to go too big to scare anyone away but then again I want something with flavor to introduce good beer to some folks.
ESB or a straightforward pale ale would probably be good.
And why not make something for the kids? Soda is really easy to make, especially if you have a keg.
I’m thinking an IPA is in order! :
Brewed an Amber today and brewing an American Brown on Sunday. Busy weekend, but it will be good to have some homebrew ready when I get back from vacation.
Wow…if I don’t make it every 4 weeks or so, I get in trouble!
The Irish Red Ale is ready to keg (Sunday). Should be some good yeast for an Oatmeal Stout (Monday). Going to toast the oatmeal for a little twist. Cheers!!!
Took an extra day for both family time and various errands. Replenishing propane in tank, picking up ingredients for something TBD (the store opens at noon, I’ll have figured it out by then), and on Monday morning plan to have my first-ever outdoor brew session, using my yet-unused Bayou Classic SP10 and my brand-new happy-birthday-to-me brew pot.
A Harvest Kolsch. Not much in commen with a true Kolsch except the yeast and the grain bill. I’m using my homegrown hops as late hop additions to boost the hop aroma and flavor.
Oh yeah, I’m also bumping it up to 7 gallons, adding some Saaz in the mashtun and draining 2 gallons after 15 minutes in the kettle. The plan is to sour it with lactic acid for a Berlinner Weisse-like beer.
That is, if Earl leaves us relatively un-scathed (knocking on wood).
